Senior golf program: health and happiness between swings
I. Graded courses
55-65 years old vitality class: start with basic swing and putting, combined with slow walking exercise, each class is 40 minutes.
66-75 years old steady class: focus on short-distance hitting exercises, add breathing regulation, and avoid violent movements.
75 years old and above leisure class: mainly based on putting games, such as “hitting the ball into the circle”, with seating and rest areas.
II. 4 major benefits
Strengthen the body: Robert, 72, walks 5 kilometers per game. He persisted for 1 year, and his joint flexibility improved and his blood pressure became more stable.
Relieve loneliness: After joining, Martha, 68, met with golfers every week, and her depression was relieved and she smiled more.
Delay aging: Henry, 80, improved his hand-eye coordination and slowed down his memory decline through putting training.
Young mentality: Although 70-year-old Lina did not win a prize in her first senior competition, she said: “Playing with young people makes me feel younger.”
III. Common questions
High intensity? The course is adjusted according to age, and you can take a golf cart to get around and take a break every 30 minutes.
Can’t learn? The coach will provide one-on-one guidance, starting from “hitting the ball up”, without pursuing standard movements.
High cost? The community senior center has public welfare classes, with a monthly fee of $80 including the venue and golf equipment; some golf courses are half price on weekday mornings.
IV. Real case
65-year-old George was addicted to watching TV after retirement and his weight soared. After joining the program for half a year, he lost 10 kilograms and formed a “sunset team” with his golf friends, playing regularly every Wednesday. He said: “This is a hundred times better than staying at home.”
Coach: “It’s not about how well you play, but about enjoying every moment of the swing.”
